This doesn't mean I'm all of a sudden a big Tarantino fan. The Hateful Eight (2015) Rated R for strong bloody violence, a scene of violent sexual content, language and some graphic nudity. The claustrophobic camerawork of cinematographer Sturla Brandth Grvlen leaves the viewer feeling like a hapless accomplice to Victoria’s plight. True, there are enough truly tragic deaths in this movie to match many a tragic movie, but the overpowering strength of the humor in this movie wins the day. Filmed in one take, on location, and in real time, the movie’s production is indeed a gamble, but director Sebastian Schipper more than pulls it off. Well, sire, I loved the time sequence shift in this movie. Mostly, I believe, his movies find success not because of their acting or their scripts, but because people like Tarantino's artificially contrived time sequence shifts and his gore. Quentin Tarantino’s eighth film takes place six or eight or twelve. Id rank Hateful 8 last, or maybe above Death Proof, but that doesnt make it a bad movie.

The Hateful Eight may leave a stronger first viewing than Jackie Brown for example, but standing the test of time and rewatchability, Jackie Brown would hold as the superior film. I mean, I don't like to think that gore is the center of my humor universe, but the gory moments in this movie were often - not always by any means - hilarious. And you know what? I've not laughed that much at a movie in a good long while. I watched this movie because I'm a huge Kurt Russell fan. I also don't care for his exuberant, almost juvenile use of violence. For one thing, I don't care for his sense of humor. If you've read anything else I've written about Tarantino, you know I'm not right up there as one of his biggest fans.
